Santa Catalina Island, named after Catherine of Alexandria, was claimed for the Spanish Empire the next day, on her feast day, November 25. In 1602–1603, Sebastián Vizcaíno (1548–1624) officially surveyed and mapped the California coastline, including San Pedro Bay, for New Spain.

The entire month of February 2022 is Seniors Free month at the Safari Park. Guests ages 65 and up with a valid photo ID receive free admission all month long. Anyone younger than 15 must be accompanied by a paid adult 18+ during their visits to the Zoo and the Safari Park. This includes Autumn Festival, a special event scheduled on selected October weekends at the Safari Park.

HalGLOWeen includes a variety of special activities and entertainment, including wildlife experiences, a DJ, glow-in-the-dark hula hoops, acrobats, a bubble dance party, puppets, costumed characters, live music, and Halloween decor. The entire Zoo grounds will be open during HalGLOWeen, scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. On selected Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October. The CFPB is subject to a rulemaking step that is unique among financial regulators.
